The Cobham Drive and Wairere Drive Extension project in Hamilton was a key infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and connectivity in the city’s eastern transport network. Completed in 2021, the project extended Wairere Drive to Cobham Drive (State Highway 1), creating a crucial link in Hamilton’s ring road and easing congestion on local roads.
The project included a new signalized intersection, upgraded pedestrian and cycling facilities, and safety enhancements to support all road users. Extensive landscaping was carried out, with over 50,000 native plants introduced to enhance the surrounding environment. These improvements have provided a more efficient and safer route for commuters while supporting Hamilton’s long-term urban growth.
