The Northern Corridor Integration (NCI) project is a key transport infrastructure upgrade in Auckland, designed to improve connectivity and ease congestion in the city’s growing northern region. Completed in 2023, the project enhances State Highway 1 and State Highway 18, providing seamless motorway-to-motorway connections between the Northern Motorway and the Upper Harbour Motorway.
The project includes new motorway lanes, upgraded local roads, and improved access for buses, cyclists, and pedestrians. A key feature is the extension of the Northern Busway to Albany, creating a more efficient public transport link. Extensive landscaping including 400,000 native plants and trees, and stormwater management systems have also been incorporated to support environmental sustainability. These improvements ensure a safer, more reliable, and integrated transport network for Auckland’s expanding communities.
