SH20 Mt Roskill Extension
The State Highway 20 – Mt. Roskill Extension was a key transport infrastructure project in Auckland, aimed at improving connectivity and easing congestion in the city’s southwestern corridor. Completed in 2009, the 4.5-kilometer, four-lane motorway extends SH20 from Queenstown Road to Maioro Street, forming a critical link in Auckland’s Western Ring Route.
The project included new interchanges, upgraded local road connections, and dedicated cycling and pedestrian facilities to enhance multi-modal transport options. Extensive landscaping and environmental measures, such as stormwater treatment systems and native planting, were also incorporated to minimize ecological impact. This extension has significantly improved travel efficiency, providing a safer and more direct route between Auckland’s western and southern regions.
